FAQ's for Complementary Therapy in Sevenoaks

A friend of mine had reflexology once and although she enjoyed it, she had a terrible headache afterwards. Is this normal?

Reflexology can start a de-toxing process and that explains the headache. This is temporary and it shows a big shift in energy rebalancing in the body. The worse the imbalance the bigger the reaction. This reaction will become less after every subsequent treatment. For the reflexologist this is a good sign. Drinking lots of water during and after the treatment will help to minimise the reaction.

I don't like people touching my feet

Reflexology is not for you. If it is merely the fact that you find it ticklish, don't worry as a reflexology treatment is quite firm.

Can you have a reflexology treatment during pregnancy?

Yes, it is quite safe. The reflexologist will avoid certain reflex points during the first trimester.

What is nutritional therapy?

It is basically eating for good health. As your nutritional needs change so should your diet, you would include more foods of certain groups. E.g more food containing vitamin B during times of stress. You may also need to supplement your diet during times of stress or ill health.

Can you have more than one kind of treatment?

Yes, most complementary therapies work very well together.

I am on medication, can I still have complementary health treatments?

Yes you can. The therapist might get clearance from your GP if you are being treated as your dosage might be affected.

I have high blood pressure but I am not on medication. Will any of these treatments help?

Regular treatments may help to lower blood pressure.

How many treatment sessions does one need. Is one treatment enough?

With the ear candles one treatment is sometimes enough but often you may need more than one appointment. With the other treatments you will find that the accumulative effect of a number of treatments is the most beneficial. It would also depend on the severity of your complaint or what you would like to get out of a treatment. A one off treatment may be very relaxing if that is all you want but may not be enough to shift any energy imbalances.

How often can one have a treatment?

One week apart is usually recommended.

Can I drive after a treatment?

Yes, carefully with the window open or the air conditioner on. This is because the treatment can leave you very relaxed and sometimes a bit sleepy, so you need to make sure that you stay awake.

I have booked an appointment after lunch and I know I will be having some alcohol. Is this ok?

It is not adviseable as you may feel quite ill. Wait 2 or 3 hours.

I have not eaten today

It is not a good idea to treat anybody on a completely empty stomach because treatment can have an effect on bloody sugar levels.

I suffer from epilepsy. Can I still have a treatment?

Your therapist will need to know a few things like when was your last attack, what brings on an attack, who to contact on case of an attack, is it under control, are you on medication, have you checked with your GP?

I am trying to get pregnant, is it safe to have a treatment?

It is best to avoid the seated massage if you are not sure if you are pregnant or not. You must also inform your reflexologist if you think there might be a chance that you are pregnant.

I have diabetes, is it safe?

Approach with caution, the therapist will need to know as she might have to adjust the treatment. If you are insulin dependent you would need to get clearance from your GP as massage can have an effect on blood sugar levels.

I have thrombosis. Can I still have a treatment?

I would advise against it.
